Sydney, February 5 || TC - A man has tragically died after being stabbed near a train station in the western suburbs of Sydney.

According to the New South Wales (NSW) police, emergency services were called to Kingswood train station, located approximately 50 kilometers west of Sydney's city center, after a 58-year-old man was discovered with a stab wound to his chest around 10:20 PM on Tuesday.

Paramedics attended to the man at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police have established the area as a crime scene and have launched an investigation into the incident.

In a separate event, a man was hospitalized on Wednesday after being stabbed in a busy area of Melbourne's inner suburbs.

Victoria police confirmed that a man in his 30s was stabbed near a busy intersection in Prahran, located about four kilometers southeast of central Melbourne, just before 8 AM local time. The man was taken to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his lower body.

Authorities are currently searching the local area for the unknown male attacker.

Earlier, on Tuesday, police in the Northern Territory (NT) announced that a man had been hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting in an apparent targeted attack in northern Australia.

Police responded to reports of a shooting in the suburb of Coconut Grove in Darwin, just after 7 PM on Monday. Ambulance crews attended to the 23-year-old man, who had sustained gunshot wounds to his legs. He was taken to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition.

According to ambulance services, the man had been shot with a shotgun and suffered pellet injuries to both legs.

NT police arrested two men, aged 19 and 22, along with a 22-year-old woman in connection with the incident at about 4 AM on Tuesday in Katherine, located 270 kilometers southeast of Darwin.

Superintendent Tanya Mace stated that the police believe the attackers were known to the victim.

"This appears to have been a targeted attack, and at no point was the public in danger," she said.

Witnesses reported that the attackers exited a vehicle before shooting the man.

Mace confirmed that forensic teams would process both the scene of the crime and the vehicle the suspects were traveling in at the time of their arrest.
