One Killed, Over 25 Injured in Bus-Dumper Collision in Gujarat's Hazira

Feb 6 || TC -  A tragic accident occurred this morning in Hazira, Gujarat, when a dumper truck collided with a public bus, resulting in one fatality and leaving more than 25 passengers injured out of the 50 on board.

The collision's force caused both vehicles to overturn, creating chaos at the accident site. Local residents rushed to assist, helping to rescue those trapped inside the bus.

Emergency services quickly responded by dispatching eight ambulances, along with several private ones, to transport the injured to the nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.

Local police teams arrived promptly and worked efficiently to clear the traffic block caused by the accident.

The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem, and authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.

Hazira, located near Surat, is a key industrial and port hub with significant economic importance. It is home to large industries, including Essar Steel (AMNS), ONGC, Kribhco, Shell, and Larsen & Toubro (L&T), which specialize in steel manufacturing, petrochemicals, power generation, and shipbuilding.

In 2022, Gujarat recorded 15,751 road accidents, an increase from 15,186 in 2021. These incidents led to over 7,000 fatalities, with over-speeding cited as the primary factor behind many accidents.

Between 2020 and 2023, Gujarat averaged 21 deaths per day due to road accidents. The number of fatalities grew from 6,281 in 2020-21 to 7,656 in 2022-23, marking an 18% rise. In July 2023 alone, the state saw 11,678 road accidents, averaging around 18 injuries every hour.

The situation is equally concerning when it comes to injuries. In the first seven months of 2024, Gujarat reported 92,983 injury cases due to road accidents, averaging around 18 injuries per hour. Ahmedabad had the highest number of such cases, with 15,489 incidents during this period.
