Assam Government Directs FIR Against Pakistani National Ali Sheikh Over Alleged Links to Gaurav Gogoi

February 16 || TC – The Assam government has decided to file a police case against Pakistani national Ali Sheikh, citing his close professional association with Elizabeth Gogoi, the wife of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi. This connection has fueled speculations about potential links between the Pakistani national and the Congress leader.

The decision was finalized during a Cabinet meeting on Sunday, chaired by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Addressing the media, CM Sarma stated, "Ali Sheikh has held multiple positions in committees formed by the Pakistani government. There is evidence indicating that Sheikh was in direct contact with Elizabeth Gogoi, a British citizen who is also the wife of Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi. She had worked professionally with Sheikh."

Highlighting concerns regarding national security, the Chief Minister added, "The Cabinet has directed the Director General of Police to register a case against Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and conduct a thorough investigation into this wider network."

He further mentioned that before her marriage to Gaurav Gogoi, Elizabeth, as the soon-to-be wife of then Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s son, had unrestricted access to the Chief Minister’s residence. This aspect will also be a subject of the investigation.

Additionally, CM Sarma pointed out that despite being a British citizen, Elizabeth Gogoi had participated in the Indian electoral process, and the Assam government intends to raise this issue with the central government.

He also noted that Assam has historically been a region where ISI and other extremist organizations from Pakistan and Bangladesh have operated.

CM Sarma Intensifies Attack on Gaurav Gogoi

Earlier, in a series of posts on X, CM Sarma escalated his criticism of Gogoi, questioning his alleged associations and their implications for national security.

The allegations focus on Elizabeth Colbourn, a UK citizen, and her professional history involving entities purportedly linked to Pakistani intelligence.

Sarma claims that despite being married to Gaurav Gogoi for over a decade, Elizabeth retained her British citizenship for 12 years and maintained professional ties with individuals allegedly connected to ISI.

Raising further concerns, CM Sarma questioned why Elizabeth had not applied for Indian citizenship even after 12 years of marriage to an Indian national.

Gaurav Gogoi Rejects Allegations, Calls It Political Vendetta

Meanwhile, Gaurav Gogoi has firmly denied the accusations, dismissing them as a politically motivated attack ahead of Assam’s 2026 elections.

He ridiculed the claims about his wife’s alleged links to ISI, calling them "laughable" and a deliberate smear campaign orchestrated for political gains.
