Feb 17 || TC - A consensus was reached to ensure the smooth operation of the Rajasthan Assembly amidst ongoing disruptions over the phone tapping issue.
An important meeting involving senior leaders from all major parties in the 16th Assembly took place on Monday in Speaker Vasudev Devnani's office. The meeting aimed to address the recent disruptions and ensure the House functions smoothly.
Speaker Devnani listened to the concerns from both the ruling and opposition parties, expressing disappointment over the rising tensions in the Assembly. He urged all members to avoid such situations in the future and announced that a consensus had been achieved to facilitate smooth functioning.
During the meeting, senior party members agreed to conduct Assembly proceedings in a peaceful and orderly manner. The Speaker stressed that the Opposition should raise issues with dignity, while the state government should provide appropriate responses.
Speaker Devnani emphasized the Assembly's role as a sacred democratic institution and stated that it is the responsibility of both the ruling and opposition parties to maintain its dignity. He highlighted that the state Budget will be presented on Wednesday, February 19, and urged both sides to approach it with respect and attention.
He reminded the members that the Budget affects eight crore citizens of Rajasthan, who closely follow the Assembly proceedings. The Speaker called on elected representatives to set a positive example through their behavior and adherence to parliamentary protocols.
He also underlined that the Assembly operates on established rules, traditions, and discipline. Speaker Devnani urged all parties to cooperate in conducting meaningful debates within the time limits set by the Chair. He further reminded members that the Question Hour should proceed peacefully, with mutual respect, and that after the Zero Hour, members must seek the Speaker's permission before presenting their views.
Thanks to Speaker Devnani's mediation, all parties agreed to resolve the deadlock before the Budget Session of the third sitting of the 16th Assembly. Detailed discussions were held on the issues raised by members, which led to a successful resolution.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sumit Godara, Government Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg, Chief Whip of the Opposition Rafeek Khan, RLD Representative Subhash Garg, and Assembly Principal Secretary Bharat Bhushan Sharma were all part of the meeting.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from all parties to uphold the dignity, decorum, and democratic values of the Rajasthan Assembly.
State Minister Kirodi Lal Meena had earlier accused the BJP government of phone tapping, and the Opposition Congress had created a disturbance in the Assembly, demanding a clarification from the government.
