Jan 30, 2025 || TC - The tragic incident at the JK Cement factory in Panna, Madhya Pradesh, has resulted in four confirmed deaths and left over 30 workers severely injured, authorities reported on Thursday.
The accident took place while construction workers were working on a ceiling slab at a building under construction as part of the JK Cement plant. The slab collapsed unexpectedly, trapping many workers underneath.
Superintendent of Police Sai Krishna S. Thota stated that the incident occurred near Amaanganj town at the cement plant. Rescue teams have recovered four bodies from the debris, and more than 30 injured workers have been rushed to hospitals in Panna and Katni.
One injured worker, who survived the incident, shared that the roof suddenly collapsed while they were working, trapping over 50 laborers under the rubble. Workers nearby immediately alerted factory management, which initiated the rescue operation.
Factory officials quickly arrived at the scene and launched a rescue effort, assisted by the workers. The local police were also notified and responded promptly to the situation, according to a senior JK Cement employee.
V.D. Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Khajuraho and the state BJP chief, instructed the Panna district administration to carry out a full-scale rescue operation for the trapped workers. He further directed the district collector and the Superintendent of Police to ensure all necessary help is provided to the injured. Sharma also stated that an inquiry would be conducted, and action would be taken against those responsible for the incident.
The JK Cement factory in Panna is one of the country's leading producers of grey cement and a prominent manufacturer of white cement. Over the past four decades, it has contributed significantly to India's infrastructure development through its product quality, customer focus, and technological advancements.
