Deadly Road Accident in Bihar: 2 Killed, 12+ Injured in Purnea Crash

Jan 30, 2025 || TC - A tragic collision between a bus and a truck on National Highway 31 in Bihar's Purnea district resulted in two fatalities and left around 12 passengers injured on Thursday.

The crash occurred between the Hijla and Dighi bridges under the jurisdiction of Baisi police station when a bus, traveling from Patna to Kishanganj, collided head-on with a truck carrying bamboo. The truck was speeding in the opposite direction.

Both vehicles were severely damaged in the crash. Emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene, providing initial medical aid to the injured passengers before transferring them to the Baisi Health Centre. Later, they were referred to Purnea’s Government Medical College and Hospital for more advanced treatment.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, while local police are working to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic on the highway.

Eyewitnesses indicated that the ongoing construction work on a nearby bridge had narrowed the road to a one-way stretch, leading to frequent accidents in the area. Police also mentioned that heavy fog and reduced visibility in the morning hours contributed to the head-on collision.

Following the crash, a significant traffic jam formed on National Highway 31, which was eventually cleared by Baisi Police, restoring smooth traffic flow.

"The passengers sitting at the front of the bus lost their lives in the accident. We recovered their bodies from the wreckage, and they have been sent to Purnea’s GMCH for post-mortem. The injured are receiving treatment at the same hospital," said the SHO of Baisi police station.

An FIR has been filed in connection with the incident, and further investigations are ongoing, according to the police.
